Going gas hands back several hundred pounds of payload versus the diesel. This is the 4x4, fitted with the 5.4L Triton V8 (EFI, gasoline) — VIN-decoded from 1FTSX21527EA07247, not inferred — so it sits at the lower, not the V10, end of the 2007 F-250 gas range.
The two 2007 gas engines: the 5.4L V8 (this truck) tows roughly 8,000–10,000 lb conventional depending on axle ratio and cab; the 6.8L V10 runs about 10,000–12,000 lb and is noticeably happier doing it. Against the plated 9,200 lb GVWR the gas V8 leaves roughly 2,400–3,000 lb of payload — more usable headroom than the diesel version of the same truck.
Practical read: a solid mid-weight tow rig. A 7,000–9,000 lb trailer — car hauler with a car on it, mid-size travel trailer, a decent equipment trailer — is comfortable territory. Above ~10,000 lb the 5.4 will do it on paper and hate it in the hills; that's V10 work.
4x4, not 4x2: the transfer case, front diff and heavier front axle add roughly 300–500 lb of curb weight, so payload and rated tow sit a touch below the 2WD equivalent. That's the trade for traction where towing actually gets sketchy — a wet ramp, gravel, a soft site, launching uphill. From the door plate — verified. The note above said to trust the door-jamb sticker over the ranges, so here it is, read straight off the driver's-door Safety Compliance Certification Label. It confirms the 9,200 lb GVWR exactly — right where the payload math assumed — and, decoding the AXLE code, settles the 3.73-vs-4.30 question: this truck runs the taller of the two.
What the 3.73 means for towing: it's the taller (numerically lower) of the two ratios — geared for easier highway cruising and better economy, at the cost of some low-end pulling grunt versus the 4.30. On the 5.4 that puts real-world tow capability toward the lower-to-middle of the 8,000–10,000 lb band, not the top. Why classic plate
An F-250 is registered as a truck by weight, not as a passenger car — that's where PennDOT's fees get expensive. The F-250 (9,200 lb GVWR per title) falls in Class 4 (9,001–11,000 lb). Note: at over 9,000 lb GVWR, the truck is already OBD-exempt under standard registration — so emissions exemption is not a classic-plate benefit here.
The restrictions
Section 1340 makes it unlawful to operate a classic-plated vehicle for general daily transportation or any commercial purpose. The regs define occasional as no more than one day a week — weekly use sits exactly at the ceiling. The restriction is about purpose as much as frequency: club runs, shows, errands, pleasure driving are fine. A load of materials for a shed project is not, and that's the scenario a trooper actually notices. The truck must also be in original or restored condition.
