Synology DS1813+

8-bay network-attached storage · Intel Atom D2700 dual-core · 2 GB ECC (upgradeable to 4 GB) · 4× Gigabit Ethernet · expandable to 18 bays via 2× DX513 · DSM 6.2.4 (final) · launched 2013
Recommendation · lived inventory
In service · DSM 7 incompatible · security clock ticking

Beast of a machine for 2013 — 8 bays, 4 NICs, ECC RAM, expandable to 18 bays via DX513 expansion. Twelve years on, it's still capable, but Synology dropped this generation from DSM 7 (released 2021). DSM 6.2.4 is the final supported OS and security updates have wound down. Two pragmatic paths: (1) demote to warm-archive-only on an isolated VLAN with no inbound internet access, or (2) plan replacement within the next 12-18 months. Drop receipts + expansion-unit history + SMART reports below — the more substrate, the cleaner whichever path you pick.
