Sta-Bil-treat tank fuel between uses. Run engine briefly + flush pump with clean water + run "pump-saver" antifreeze before winter storage to prevent ice damage in the pump (the #1 way these die). Check oil + spark plug annually. Surface rust around the data plate is cosmetic for now — wire-brush + paint-touch-up if you want to halt it.

The single most-important maintenance step

Pump preservation between uses. The axial-cam pump in this Simpson is the part most likely to kill the unit if neglected. Two failure modes:

Frozen pump — leftover water in the pump expands on freezing, cracks the pump housing. Use "Briggs & Stratton Pump Saver" or equivalent antifreeze before any temp-below-freezing storage. ~$10 per spray-in, lasts 6+ months.
Stuck pistons from sediment — minerals in tap water + storage = caked deposits inside the pump. Run clear after every use, flush before long storage.

Pump rebuilds cost more than a new unit at this price point — preservation is the only economic option.

Common MSH3125-S issues

Low pressure / pulsing — usually clogged nozzle or air-leak on the inlet hose. Clear nozzle with the included needle tool first.
Engine won't start — same as any 4-stroke: stale fuel (carb gummed), spark plug fouled, oil low (Honda GC190 has a low-oil shutoff that prevents starting).
Honda GC190 oil weep — known minor issue, doesn't affect operation but worth wiping + checking level periodically.
Quick-connect leaks — O-rings in the nozzle quick-connects wear out, $5 replacement kit at any hardware store.
