Note on the bar swap: the Husqvarna 450 has been photographed with both a Stihl Rollomatic E bar AND an OEM Husqvarna bar fitted. Bars are interchangeable across brands when mount pattern + drive-link count + gauge match — Stihl Rollomatic bars in .325" pitch with 18" length will fit the 450's mount. Whichever's mounted currently becomes the live config; the other lives in the spares.
Husqvarna 450e II purchased via eBay for $384.87. Carrying case bought 15 June for $56.06 (separate eBay seller). Safety gear (helmet, gloves, chaps) pre-staged across November 2016 ($48.88 helmet) and May 2020 ($93.69 gloves + gear) so the saw arrived into an already-equipped shop.

Saw came in with a broken pull cord and a chain that wouldn't stay tight. Tech diagnosis: chain was mounted backwards. Repair: re-mounted chain in correct direction, replaced pull cord, full two-cycle service (carb adjust + cleaning), new NGK spark plug (BPMR7Y), topped bar & chain oil, fresh TruFuel premix.

A backwards chain is one of the most common rookie mistakes with two-stroke chainsaws — the cutting teeth point the wrong way on the top of the bar, so it grinds rather than cuts. Easy fix once diagnosed (remove cover, flip chain, retension), but easy to miss because the saw will still run. Paul Moyer flagged it and re-mounted as part of the 2021 service. Worth checking visually before each use that the cutting edges face forward at the top of the bar.
